◌ Artist Statement ◌
Émilie Payeur is an interdisciplinary artist particularly fond of working with what is akin to sound, video, modeling clay, clay, found objects, elements from the nature, performance, most often in the context of installations (in situ).
She is particularly interested in the notion of the sacred, ritual, dreams and the unconscious, animism, transcendence and altered states of consciousness. By extracting elements from her memories, she seeks to highlight these moments of wonder at the suddenly revealed beauty of an everyday element or experience. She exploits these moments of awakening which reveal a normally inaccessible dimension by allowing us to come into contact with something sacred.
She also works in experimental/noise music, mainly using the no-input technique, but also samples as well as small lo-fi synthesizers and her voice. Lately, she has also started creating pieces to be performed by other people.
She is in the process of questioning the usual modes of presentation and ways of doing things, especially in the visual arts and in music, and seeks to remove this separation which exists between the work and visitors. She aims to create installation having a community function rather than a strictly aesthetic one.
Her works are characterized by a Lo-FI/DIY aesthetic that is reminiscent kids craft. She often uses recycled materials and try to reuse them in different ways for several projects as much as she can.

Émilie Payeur est une artiste interdisciplinaire aimant particulièrement travailler avec ce qui s’apparente au son, la vidéo, la pâte à modeler, l’argile, les found objects, les éléments de la nature, la performance, le plus souvent dans le cadre d’installations (in situ).
Elle s’intéresse tout particulièrement à la notion de sacré, au rituel, aux rêves et à l’inconscient, à l'animisme, à la transcendance et aux états de conscience altérés. En extrayant des éléments de ses souvenirs, elle cherche à mettre en lumière ces instants d’émerveillement face à la beauté soudainement révélée d’un élément ou d’une expérience du quotidien. Elle exploite ces moments d’éveil qui dévoilent une dimension normalement inaccessible en nous permettent d’entrer en contact avec quelque chose de sacré.
Elle travaille aussi en musique expérimentale/noise, utilisant principalement la technique du no-input, mais aussi des samples ainsi que des petits synthétiseurs lo-fi et sa voix. Dernièrement, elle a aussi commencé à créer des pièces destinées à être jouées par d’autres personnes.
Elle est dans un processus de remise en question des modes de présentation et des manières de faire habituelles, surtout en arts visuels et en musique, et cherche à enlever cette séparation qui existe entre l’œuvre et les visiteurs.ses. Elle vise à créer des installations ayant une fonction communautaire plutôt que strictement esthétique.
Ses œuvres se caractérisent par une esthétique Lo-FI/DIY qui n’est pas sans rappeler le bricolage de l’enfance. Elle porte une attention particulière à la récupération et au recyclage dans le choix de ses matériaux qui sont souvent réutilisés de manières différentes pour plusieurs projets.
